Denton, TX – Want to learn chess or become a piece or pawn in a chess game? Children between the ages of 9 and 14 may attend this twelve-week program that will teach the rules of chess. Children will also get to sing, dance, and act as chessmen! The program will end with the children’s living chess game performance on November 24th at 4 p.m.

The class will be taught by Dr. Alexey Root, author of Children and Chess: A Guide for Educators and a former U.S. Women’s chess champion. The program will be held at the North Branch Library starting September 3, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. It will continue on a weekly basis on Thursdays at 2:30pm.  Space is limited and registration is required. For more information, contact WyLaina Hildreth, Public Services Librarian, at 940.349.8774 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
