Dr. Alexey Root gave a simultaneous exhibition (a "simul") at the Audelia Road Branch Library, Sunday, August 28, at 2 p.m. Fifteen players initially faced Dr. Root. After three players finished and their spots were refilled, a total of 18 players participated. Dr. Root won 17 games and drew one game. She had no losses. Dr. Root sold six copies of Prepare With Chess Strategy.
Her toughest game was the draw against Courtenay Thompson, who told Dr. Root before the event that he was about 1400-rated chess strength. Thanks to Librarian Liz Kwan, Library Associate Martin Moomaw, and Branch Manager Juli Gonzalez for hosting this event. 56 people came to the simul, as there were spectators and family members, chess players, and seven students from Dr. Root's online ED 4358 course. The last game finished at 4:00 p.m., so 2 hours for 18 games.
